The big West Coast meeting was
everything that was expected. A great turnout of 37 cars lined up at
Eastern Beach, Geelong for the run along the Great Ocean Road to Apollo
Bay. The drive was organized and lead by Steve Malkin from Geelong, who
did a fantastic job of putting it all together.
The day started at Harvey Norman, Nunawading at
7.45 a.m. before moving of to the next meeting point at the Shell
Westgate at 8.45. It was obvious that the day was going to be great
given the turnout at the two meeting points.
The drive to Geelong was uneventful but it was
great to see the cars 'jockeying' for position all the way down the
highway, before being led into the car park at Eastern Beach in a very
lengthy procession.
All eyes were on us as we positioned the 37 cars
into position for the photo shoot by the Geelong Advertiser, who had
sent down their photographer and a journalist to capture the event.

At the appointed time, Steve led us off for a
fantastic scenic drive along the twisting, winding road that all
Victorian drivers will lay claim as 'the greatest drivers road' in
Australia. Shame about the tourist coaches and 'Sunday drivers' who held
us up, but the open country run was planed for the return leg.
Lunch at the Pub in Apollo Bay, and a return to
Geelong and Melbourne via Forest and the long sweeping roads of the
Otway Ranges provided some spirited entertainment for those that hadn't
realised the potential of their cars.
Thanks again to Steve and the Malkins for setting
up the day. We will all look forward to another West Coast jaunt.
